R.I.P. David Lynch
It’s been a rough year so far and it’s still only January.
I was pretty devastated to read the news that David Lynch, one of the most unique and creative voices of our time, had passed away at the age of 78.
Obviously, I never knew Lynch personally, but I certainly knew his work. His films are certainly not gonna be for everyone, but I’ve always been an ardent admirer of his artistry. Eraserhead is one of the most striking directorial debuts ever… a haunting and heartbreaking parable about the fears of parenthood and childbirth that perfectly encapsulated what’s often referred to as Lynchism… and his subsequent efforts including the ever-enduring Twin Peaks, his flawed but fascinating adaptation of Frank Herbert's Dune, the nightmarish eroticism of Blue Velvet and the seminal masterclass in mindfuckery that is Mulholland Drive all speak for themselves… in their own unique way.
He was a profound influence on me both artistically and philosophically, and while I never knew him, I will miss him.
Rest in peace.
Feeling 😭 sad.
